The Access segment comprises our broadband and mobile access products for private and commercial customers, including the related applications.
Attractive Internet Access Packages
We offer our internet access products as subscription contracts with fixed monthly fees and variable, volume-based charges. In addition to packages for home users and small firms, we also offer – via 1&1 Versatel – data and network solutions for SMEs and infrastructure services for large corporations.
In this segment we operate exclusively in Germany, where we are one of the country’s leading telecommunication providers. We use the network infrastructure of 1&1 Versatel and also purchase standardized network services from other network providers. These are enhanced with leading end-user devices, self-developed applications and services from our “Internet Factory” in order to differentiate ourselves from the competition. Our Access products are marketed by the well-known brands GMX, WEB.DE and 1&1, which enable us to offer a comprehensive range of products while also targeting specific customer groups.
Powerful Network Infrastructure
We own Germany’s second-largest fiber-optic network with a length of over 41,000 km – a figure which is constantly rising. At present, this fiber-optic network mainly serves commercially used premises and state authority buildings (FTTB). In addition, private households are reached using the local loop of Deutsche Telekom.
On completion of Layer 2 bitstream regulatory procedures, we will increase our vertical integration and also produce VDSL/vectoring connections based on the Deutsche Telekom Layer 2 wholesale service.
To this end, we will gradually connect our fiber-optic network with Deutsche Telekom’s BNGs (Broadband Network Gateways).
In regions outside our fiber-optic network, we will continue to purchase VDSL/vectoring services on a Layer 3 basis from Deutsche Telekom in future.
In addition, we will continue to supply ADSL lines via our own network, as well as via various wholesale service providers.
For our Mobile Internet products, we use wholesale services provided by Vodafone and Telefónica.
