Your Tasks

With more than 43 million active customers which generate over 7,000 authentication requests per second, GMX and WEB.DE are among the most widely used email providers in Germany. We rely on state-of-the-art technologies including AI based anomaly detection to protect and secure our customers identities. As Director of Software Engineering, you will shape the technological future of our user management systems together with your teams and take responsibility for a large distributed software infrastructure which is at the core of our products.

• You will lead and coach an agile software development department consisting of teams of around 40 employees and develop your area further.
• You will be responsible for the development and evolution of all user management systems, ensuring that the right architecture and technology choices are made.
• You deal with concepts of large distributed systems based on Java and Python, NoSQL databases and queues. You are familiar with corresponding technologies such as Cassandra and Apache Kafka, Kubernetes or comparable alternatives.
• You plan it, you build it, you run it - together with Product Management and IT Operations you are responsible for the highly available operation of the identity management system. Your contribution: automating, implementing resilience and security patterns, using scalable technologies and supporting also other operation topics like observability, alerting and anomaly detection.
• You create the foundation for data-driven decision making together with your Data Analysts and Machine Learning Experts.

You have a technical degree or a comparable qualification? Your many years of experience as a software developer helps you to ask your teams the right questions and make the right decisions together? In the past you planned code structures, today you decide on the overall architecture of large systems? Being responsible for the development of software for 43 millions of customers and the protection of their valuable communication and identity motivates you? • You are very familiar with recruiting, building, structuring and leading technical organizations and strategic leadership with clear objectives.
• When it comes to important decisions such as system architecture and technology decisions, you are not only a spectator but also participate in discussions at eye level. Ideally, you have experience in the planning and implementation of high-available, high-load systems.
• You enjoy coaching and developing your team.
• You have a confident manner, can convince others with arguments and enjoy interdisciplinary thinking and working.
