1&1 Cloud Server is test winner in Cloud Spectator Benchmark

In the “Top 10 Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2016” by American analysts Cloud Spectator, the 1&1 Cloud Server ranked as the top cloud solution with the best price/performance ratio. The survey compared cloud offerings of 1&1, the leading web hosting provider in Europe (www.1and1.co.uk), to similar products of cloud service vendors including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute, Rackspace and IBM SoftLayer. It evaluated the relative performance of virtual machines (VMs) focusing on the server components processor (vCPU), memory and disk storage.

The results in detail

Cloud Spectator tested the VMs of the analyzed vendors in four different sizes ranging from 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB Disk to 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB. Three VMs were operated per unit, meaning that a total of 12 VMs ran for a period of 24 hours. During this time, pings were continuously sent to the servers for receiving measurement results. The Cloud Spectator team recorded performance data of virtual processors, memory and storage. The result: 1&1 fully convinced the analysts in terms of price/performance ratio (Cloud Spectator refers to this as “Cloud Specs Score”). In addition, in the area of CPU and memory performance, 1&1’s results exceeded those of competitor solutions.

The analysis shows that 1&1 Cloud Server’s Cloud Specs Score is, for example, over four times as high as those of other leading vendors, such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. Apart from that, 1&1 stands out with no additional costs for support and traffic. Compared to other providers, 1&1 also has no fees for traffic.

“Comparing different vendors pays off as the products can vary greatly and thus, enterprises can save or spend additional expenses. In terms of price-performance value, 1&1 scores higher than the big players with its Cloud Server product”, says Danny Gee, Senior Analyst at Cloud Spectator. “The top ranking in the Top 10 Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2016 strengthens 1&1’s position in the cloud market.”

“We are very pleased with this excellent test result,” says Robert Hoffmann, CEO 1&1 Internet SE. “The benchmark shows that we live up to our claim of high-quality cloud services, which is now officially backed by an independent analyst firm.”
