1&1 Signs its First Registry-Registrar Agreement for New TLDs

1&1 Internet, Inc., www.1and1.com, a global leader among Web hosting providers, today signed the Registry-Registrar Agreement with Donuts Inc. As the industry’s largest registry by number of new TLD applications, Donuts Inc. is expected to offer more than 150 extensions as early as mid-January 2014. With this agreement, 1&1 is able to take pre-registrations for Donuts domains, and in time provide all TLDs offered by the registry to its customers, delivering vast branding and targeting opportunities to businesses on the Web.

“This agreement is an important milestone in 1&1’s New TLD strategy,” said Robert Hoffmann, CEO Hosting of 1&1 Internet. “Over the next three years, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) plans to release more than 700 new domain extensions and we expect to offer a significant amount of those as a registrar. The partnership with Donuts will give our eBusiness customers the ability to leverage some of the most popular new domain extensions including .BUSINESS, .EMAIL and .CONTRACTORS, to name a few. Now businesses can expand their brand and positive reputation by creating an impactful virtual address and continue to develop their domain portfolio with 1&1.”

The Internet namespace has become congested and businesses are encouraged to investigate new opportunities to best place themselves on the Internet. The new realm of domains improves the chances of acquiring a popular domain name, while allowing businesses to better identify themselves online. As a one-stop-shop for eBusiness, 1&1 offers a well-rounded suite of solutions for professionals interested in a unique online representation.

Recently, 1&1 introduced its pre-reservation portal, www.1and1.com/new-top-level-domains, as a useful way for website owners to browse the new domain endings and make a risk-free pre-reservation for their relevant domain name choice. The 1&1 domain portal provides news and information about new TLDs and suggests which Internet addresses will be relevant based on a particular business area or an individual field of interest. Furthermore, 1&1 will inform users automatically as soon as the desired domain name becomes available.
