Free configuration of software component: 1&1 launches Managed Cloud Hosting

Maximum flexibility, security and performance thanks to container technology // Ongoing maintenance and updating of the systems by 1&1 expert team

1&1 (www.1and1.com), the leading web hosting provider in Europe and one of the largest hosters worldwide, further expands its cloud portfolio by now offering 1&1 Managed Cloud Hosting. Based on the renowned 1&1 Cloud Server infrastructure, customers benefit from an easy-to-use, yet flexible cloud solution that brings no administration effort. 1&1 provides maintenance and continuous updates of customer systems, so that web projects are always up to date. The 1&1 Managed Cloud Server costs just five dollars more per month than the standard Cloud Server offering, while the used server resources are billed per minute as usual.

“With our 1&1 Managed Cloud Hosting we support our customers even more in managing their web projects. Since they no longer have to stop with the administration of their systems, they can fully concentrate on their core business”, says Robert Hoffman, CEO 1 & 1 Internet SE. “The used container technology Docker makes their cloud infrastructure more agile, increases the availability of their online services and helps them to be even more successful on the internet.”

Key technology Docker

1&1 Managed Cloud Hosting builds on the Docker container technology. To be able to find the appropriate server infrastructure for their project, experienced customers, web developers, experts and agencies have the option to freely configure the software component. A server stack as required – this becomes real with the powerful 1&1 Cloud platform. Customers can choose between several pre-configured stacks or select their stack individually. Currently more than 20 stack combinations are already possible here, which are constantly being expanded and tested for compatibility. Moreover, customers can individually configure each stack of every single virtual machine (VM) and are able to book additional VMs to the minute. Apart from that, users are free to choose their server resources such as CPU, memory and SSD storage and thus, scale the performance of their infrastructure according to their needs. A scaling of the components is possible even during operation.

The used container technology not only boosts the performance of the customers systems, but also its availability. Individual containers function independently from each other and share access to the same system software. This allows for example to update one single container, while the other components continue running. In addition, the migration of applications between different systems is massively simplified. This results in significantly reduced downtime and a high level of security of the services operated on the cloud infrastructure.

Customers benefit from numerous features, if they choose the 1&1 Managed Cloud Service. The main features include:

  • Managed stack updates, including update of the operating system
  • Selectable data center (Germany, Spain, USA)
  • Unlimited traffic at no extra charge
  • SSL certificate included
  • 24/7 expert support
  • Performance and stack individually and at any time adaptable
  • Simple administration via the intuitive 1&1 Cloud Panel
  • FTP access

Transparent pricing as usual

The 1&1 Managed Cloud offer coincides in its product and price structure to that of the 1&1 Cloud Servers providing different instance packages from S to XL. The costs for the standard cloud server version are setting the basic price, while the management is an additional five dollars per server, per month. Each of the 1&1 Managed Cloud products is configured for specific use-cases varying in vCPU, RAM and SSD storage.

All technical data of the available pre-configured packages in a nutshell:

Package RAM vCPU SSD-Storage Price / month
S 512 MB 1 vCore 30 GB 9.99 $
M 1 GB 1 vCore 40 GB 14.99 $
L 2 GB 2 vCores 80 GB 24.99 $
XL 4 GB 2 vCores 120 GB 34.99 $
FLEX 1-128 GB 1-16 vCores 20-500 GB from 20.84 $

In addition, users can choose the Flex model to have maximum flexibility in their resources’ scalability. The 1&1 Managed cloud offering is based on the established pay-per-use pricing model calculating costs minute-wise which can be tracked by customers using an interactive invoice tool. Here they see not only the used resources of the current month, but also the future development of their expenses. So customers always keep full control. There is no fixed term of the contract which can be terminated at any time.
