Programmed for success
The internet has firmly established itself as a universal medium for information, entertainment, communication, organization and e-business. This development is being driven by broadband access via fixed-line or mobile phone connections.
Thanks to its permanent availability and ever increasing access speeds, the internet is steadily developing into a universal infrastructure. Via a single connection, it can serve our information, entertainment and communication needs and enable us to use business and private applications. At the same time, it creates new sales and marketing channels. Portals pool and organize such services and content according to specific target group profiles and represent a universal home base within the internet.
And that’s exactly our vision: to supply private and commercial users with market-oriented information and entertainment products, as well as cloud applications, from our “Internet Factory” via increasingly powerful broadband connections.
In order to fully exploit the growing Mobile Internet and Cloud Computing markets, we introduced a new segmentation structure for management and reporting purposes as of the beginning of 2010: Access and Applications.
Access
The “Access” segment comprises our fixed-line and mobile access products, including the corresponding applications. We only operate in Germany in this segment, where we are among the leading providers with 3.5 million customer contracts. We are not dependent on network providers and purchase standardized network services from various pre-service providers, which we then enhance with end user devices and our own applications and services from our Internet Factory in order to differentiate ourselves from the competition. more
Applications
The “Applications” segment comprises the company’s application business – whether ad-financed or via subscription fee. These applications include, for example, home pages and e-shops, Personal Information Management applications (e-mail, to-do lists, appointments, addresses), group work, online storage and office applications, which we develop in our own Internet Factory or together with partners. With 5.94 million fee-based customer contracts and 27 million ad-financed accounts, we are among the leading companies in each of our current target markets (Germany, France, the UK, Spain, Austria, Switzerland and the USA). more
